Again, after much tinkering I almost certianly convinced to go for ....
.co.uk/subcat/brand-model

Our man that can has removed the original /cat/ (category) and /pd/
(product) identifiers and now uses trailing /
so .co.uk/cat/treadmill -> .co.uk/treadmill/
and
.co.uk/pd/lifefitness-t9i -> .co.uk/lifefitness-t9i

so the final product page URL will be......

..co.uk/treadmill/lifefitness-t9i

................... I think.
